Sheep Herders! the Musical

by Connor Walden Productions

Sheep Herders! the Musical begins with Act 1, which introduces the audience to an excitable, engaged couple who are planning their wedding while an infectious disease (that started in China and takes months to arrive in the US) rapidly becomes an impending reality for this American couple. Act 1 concludes after the unfolding drama forcing the couple to shrink their wedding to under 10 people. Act 2 shows the effects of the quarantine in the hospital (husband is a medical school resident) and in the home (the wife is a middle manager at a tech firm stuck at home during quarantine), and how love and affection can or can’t be shared given the regulations of social distancing.

Despite the trembling of the pandemic, the musical is full of ebullient and whimsical songs between the married couple dreaming about what could be after they are married and then what life will be like after the pandemic subsides. Imagine Dear Evan Hansen meets Whisper of the Heart with a dash of Angels in America with a global pandemic on the rise.

Song Notes:*

Sheep Herders - The title track, though will appear early on in the first act with a reprise in the second act. Both times this is an escapist anthem of love.

Bloom - Another song reflecting on the fun of their relationship.

Doilies - A whimsical lullaby the couple sing to one another as they fall asleep.

I Love You Most - The wedding song (will be shortened for the actual musical probably).

(re)aching - A potential song that reflects on death while seeing the beauty of it all.

*All of these could and probably will change once they are compiled in the context of the musical. Originally recorded on iPhone by Connor except for “I Love You Most” which was recorded by Philip Carpenter, who will help record the video/audio for the delivered project. “Bloom” was self recorded and produced by Connor and Kyle Walden for their album under the band name of the Walden Twins.
